France-Cave Paintings from the Stone Age

Cave Paintings from the Stone Age

Discovered by chance in 1940 by a group of teenagers, the cave paintings at Lascaux are considered to be among the world’s best examples of prehistoric art. The area around Périgueux features many such cave paintings, although the 15,000-year-old images of bulls, horses and reindeer are believed to be some of the best. After the discovery of the cave, the increasing levels of carbon dioxide emitted by visitors were found to be damaging the paintings and, as a result, the caves were sealed in 1963, following an order from the French Ministry of Cultural Affairs. In order to compensate for the closure, a precise cement replica of the original caves, known as Lascaux II, was opened to the public in 1983; these caves feature the two most important parts of the original caves, the Great Hall of the Bulls and the Painted Gallery.

Paris Velib Bikes

Velib bicycle

Paris rental bicycles are in addition to all of its advantages proved to be rather expensive sport, because the maintenance cost of the bicycles became too expensive for the owner.
Velib bicycle lending system (which is the abbreviation for "velo libre", which means free wheel), owned by JCDecaux, assumed much praise both in the Parisians as the tourists. Bicycles are very practical to move through the French capital, and it is very appropriate "green" substitute for the taxi, bus and metro. But as the owners of bicycles recently identified, are also very expensive, since the repair and change of 20,000 cycles is not cat cough.
The owners of bicycles complain, that some drivers are allowed too much freedom. Of the 15,000 cycles, which were sent into circulation in the beginning, it has more than half gone. Some borrowers have their bicycle adventure, where the wheels are destroyed, captured with the camera and video clips posted on websites; it has even got name: "Velib extreme."
It is now in circulation of approximately 20,000 cycles, which have all been replaced. Each bike costs about 500 dollars, which means that the renovation or change of all wheel will cost ten millions of dollars.

Time to visit

The most suitable period to visit France depending on the processing of planning a visit. In summer, the most visited place is coast, especially Mediterranean and the mountains - the Pyrenees and Alps. Northern parts of the France have ocean climate (as in England), with short winters and warm summers, precipitation is evenly distributed throughout the year. The best time to visit the continental part is at the spring and autumn. Weather has been nice and warm during this time, there are not many tourists, and consequently the prices are somewhat lower, and reservations are not necessary.
